Building Community in BRMC and Beyond: General Manager Jim Pitts Honored for Service
To those who spend time within its gates, it’s clear that Blue Ridge Mountain Club is more than simply a place to live – it’s a community in every sense. Beyond a common love for the outdoors and active, vibrant lifestyles, members share a commitment to building up and giving back to the High Country. And word’s getting out.
In February, BRMC’s general manager, Jim Pitts, received the Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce’s Volunteer of the Year award for his dedication to philanthropic involvement across the community. Pitts said, “It’s a privilege to serve and work with the Blue Ridge Mountain Club family each day and to see the difference our team and our members make well beyond the boundaries of our mountain residential community. Our mission is ‘Build Community’ which is reinforced by nurturing the spirit of community beyond Blue Ridge Mountain Club and supporting our lifestyle through volunteerism in the High Country. Being recognized in this way by the Chamber is humbling and an honor.”
Service is just one facet of what makes Pitts exceptional. His business background spans several decades and includes community development, real estate marketing, community master planning, landscape architecture, and design and construction management. Each of these skills adds to the work he has been able to do at BRMC for the better part of a decade, shaping the community that members and visitors alike enjoy today.
Outside of his time at BRMC, Pitts has put his skills to use as a board member and officer of the Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce, as well as an instrumental force for the Village Foundation, particularly in his time spent helping to launch Mayview Plaza and his ongoing efforts for Art in the Park.
Pitts’ strategic vision and commitment to the art of building community physically, culturally, and philanthropically has culminated in leading the development of Blue Ridge Mountain Club. Despite the rigors of his day job, which Pitts refers to as “as fulfilling a calling as I could pick,” the Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce selected him from more than 125 volunteers serving in various capacities across the High Country to achieve its mission: a community that thrives economically and socially.
The Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce, the oldest in the High Country and named North and South Carolina’s best last year, recognized Pitts at a luncheon this winter for his five years of service as board chair, co-chair of the Economic Development Council, chair of the Community Development Committee, chair of the Cultural Arts task force and design/development/construction leader of Mayview Plaza. Blue Ridge Mountain Club is proud to have been a Gold Chamber Partner since 2009.
